Relevant is a word ministries tend to shy away from. Understandably too. Even more today, the world is completely at odds with God’s Word.
It’s in His Word though, that we’re called to meet with people where they’re at to share the gospel.
“…I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessing.” (1 Cor. 9:22b-23, ESV)
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” (Col. 4:6, ESV)
Those are our marching orders on the college campus. To share the gospel in a meaningful way to students, through conversation, large-scale outreaches and media.
I Agree With Matt was a large-scale outreach intended to generate a “buzz” by blitzing campus with fliers, t-shirts, chalk drawings, etc. Matt, a senior in the movement, shared how he came to know Christ to the students who came to check out the event.
Autumn Advance is our big push at the beginning of the fall semester. Our aim is to attract freshmen to Bible studies and our weekly meeting and also challenge our returning students to step up as leaders and share the gospel with new students.
But it’s not just enough to bring students to a relationship with Christ. In the fast-paced, secular world of college, a young Christian needs solid roots to grow on.
Discipleship is a key component to our ministry. Just as Paul instructed Timothy (“and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Tim. 2:2), we strive to do the same in students. Building their faith through sharing and applying Biblical principles, and then encouraging those students to go out and disciple younger students.
Our aim is to create a movement. Students joined together by the common banner of the Gospel and moving toward reaching the campus, and ultimately the world.
